Initiative for Research & Innovation in Science (IRIS), a science and research based initiative for school students is an outstanding example of public-private partnership initiated by the Department of Science & Technology (DST), Government of India, Indo-US Science and Technology Forum (IUSSTF) and Intel India for empowering the next generation of innovators.
The objective of IRIS is to promote and nurture science and scientific research amongst young Indian innovators. Since its inception in 2006, IRIS has been offering a platform to young innovators (classes 8-12) to showcase their talent at a national level. It also gives them a chance to be part of the Indian contingent representing the country at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) in US.
ISEF, a program of Society for Science and the Public, is the world’s largest international pre-college science competition which annually provides a forum for more than 1,700 high school students from over 75 countries, regions, and territories to showcase their independent research and compete for more than $4 million in awards. Over the years, several of the young geniuses who went to ISEF as part of team India, have won various Grand Awards for their innovative projects.
